Bored with the lacking excitement and challenge in commercials Dakota Fanning begun auditioning for roles in films. However her first roles were in series like ‘The Practice’, ‘CSI’, ‘ER’ and ‘Ally McBeal’. The much awaited debut in film came in 2001 and Dakota Fanning got to play a little girl caught up in a legal battle that was intended to separate a father and daughter in the film ‘I Am Sam’. Her role came out so well that it was hard to believe that this was indeed her first major role in a movie. The Broadcast Film Critics Association of America honoured Fanning with a Best Young Actress award and Guild Awards nominated her for the prestigious Screen Actors Guild Award, a fete that had not been associated with a child actress before. In 2002 Dakota Fanning appeared in the films ‘Taken’, ‘Sweet Home Alabama’, ‘Hansel and Gretel’ and ‘Trapped’. Such big films for a girl her age yet she managed to portray them with an ease that could only be mastered after years in front of the cameras. Dakota Fanning has worked with established acting names like Denzel Washington and Kurt Russell. Roles in ‘Hide and Seek’, ‘War of the Worlds’ and ‘Dreamer’ saw Fanning go in record books as the youngest entrant to the respected Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2006. The actress gained overwhelming media coverage in 2009 after she took up her greatest role yet as a child vampire in the popular ‘Twilight Series’. She reprised her role in the following sequels titled ‘Twilight: New Moon’ and ‘Twilight: Eclipse’ and ‘Twilight: Breaking dawn’. Her other famous appearances have been on ‘The Secret Life of Bees’, ‘Charlotte’s Web’, ‘man on Fire’, ‘Winged Creatures’, ‘Tomcats’ and ‘Uptown Girls’. Her latest role was in the 2010 film ‘Runways’ alongside Twilight Saga co-star Kirsten Stewart.
